USS Inferno Adopts A Highway

by COL Jim McClure

USS Inferno

The crew of the USS Inferno recently joined the Adopt a Highway program.  I am sure you have all seen the signs for the program with the name of the persons or organization who is to take care of a  stretch of roadway.  The area that the Inferno now takes care of are the ramps leading to and from the Highland Park Bridge, which is near the Pittsburgh Zoo.  We have passed this area on several occasions and noticed an old sign listing USS Potemkin.  We know that ship had been decommissioned many years ago.  We felt this reflected badly on STARFLEET, as one could clearly see that the roadway was badly in need of attention.

So on August 28, 2011, the crew of the Inferno met to do out highway clean up.  Members participating were Larry French (CO), George Edwards (XO), Debbie French (Chief of Ops), D C Barricella McQuade (Personnel Officer) and myself, Jim McClure(CMO/Intelligence Officer).  We were joined by Paul from USS Hecate.  Our area included 3 ramps leading to and from the bridge and beside one ramp is a large landscaped area.  We took several hours to get the place all cleaned up.  The crew worked hard to make the place presentable.  While we were working, we had several motorists honk and shout their thank yous to us. While we were just working to do something positive for the planet and wanting to make our little area of the city a nicer place, hearing the motorists was an extra bonus, which really made us feel great.
